World Press Freedom Canada condemns the surreptitious campaign of intimidation waged against Globe and Mail reporter Carrie Tait.
The Calgary-based journalist was the target of an anonymous account on X which posted photos of her meeting with two former staffers for the Alberta government, as well as the details of her movements around Calgary.
Tait has been reporting on a wrongful dismissal lawsuit filed in February by Athana Mentzelopoulos. The former CEO of Alberta Health Services alleges that she was terminated over an internal investigation that she ordered into procurement issues at the agency. An anonymous account also emerged recently promising to reveal her sources.
The campaign appears to be an effort to intimidate Tait, and is a blatant assault on press freedom.
