Journalists recognized for their contributions to reporting and press freedom:

Order of Canada: Susanne Craig, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter with The New York Times, was officially inducted into the Order of Canada on Oct. 2 for her work at The Globe and Mail and The Wall Street Journal. “Her groundbreaking coverage of contemporary issues in the United States has earned her acclaim as one of the most outstanding journalists of her generation,” read the governor general’s citation. The Canadian Journalism Foundation honored Craig with its CJF Tribute in June. She got her start at The Gauntlet, the student newspaper at the University of Calgary.

The 2027 James W. Foley Freedom Awards: Margaret Brennan, chief foreign correspondent for CBS News, will be recognized with the Foley foundation’s World Press Freedom Award on April 28 at The Watergate Hotel in Washington. Brennan is being recognized “for her commitment to rigorous journalism and her consistent coverage of hostage, wrongful detention, and national security issues.”

International Press Freedom Awards: The Committee to Protect Journalists will honour journalists from six countries at its annual awards on Nov. 19: Christina Assi of Lebanon, Szabolcs Panyi of Hungary, Estefany Rodríguez of Colombia and Sai Zaw Thaike of Myanmar, along with the Eritrea 16, a group of journalists imprisoned in Eritrea. CPJ will present its Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award to Salvadoran journalist Carlos Dada.
